Amount of non-recyclable waste generated per inhabitant per year.
Percentage of organic waste directly composted by inhabitants.
Organic waste is handled at public compost locations set up within town limits, as well as at smaller individual composters placed near the residences that have vegetable patches and gardens. The town also operates a door-to-door waste removal service. The image above shows a public composting area located in one of the town’s neighbourhoods.
DOOR-TO-DOOR PICK UP SYSTEM
Unsegregated waste, the organic fraction, plastics, as well as paper and cardboard are picked up via door-to-door service. As the photograph shows, wastebaskets are usually left for pick-up by the residences’ front doors.
WASTE COLLECTION IN RURAL AREAS
In the surrounding rural area, small recycling cabins are placed for collecting and segregating all types of waste.
GLASS, BATTERIES, CLOTHES, OIL…
All these waste fractions are collected in containers placed for this purpose within town limits.
EMERGENCY PICK-UP LOCATIONS
At the request of local residents, several emergency waste collection centres have been established and equipped with large containers to deposit organic waste and nappies.
URBAN TRASH CANS
All the trash cans in Segura are designed to differentiate waste.
In Segura, a participative procedure was developed for the residents to evaluate the implemented system of waste removal and propose changes to improve it. The procedure allows time for reflection, proposals for improving the system, as well as decisions on the modifications of the system. The Town Hall acts in accordance with the decisions taken by the community.
