PREVENTION
Recyclable glasses, plates and cutlery are used at all events and celebrations.
In Berastegi, stale bread is collected separately, so that local farmers may give it to their livestock.
ORGANIC WASTE
Berastegi is a “Zero-Waste” town as it handles and processes all the organic waste it produces. The organic waste is collected at public compost locations set up within town limits.
The organic waste is also collected at smaller individual composters placed near the residences that have vegetable patches and gardens.
The Town Hall employees are in charge of the entire composting procedure, from aerating organic matter at public compost locations and removing unwanted substances from compost to transporting and sifting compost.
Compost is also distributed among local residents who may request it for use in their vegetable patches and gardens.
UNSEGREGATED WASTE
Unsegregated waste is collected in small containers shown in the image. They are assigned to a limited (no more than ten) number of residences in order to prevent inappropriate disposal of recyclables. The proper pick-up of unsegregated waste indicates that other types of waste are handled properly as well.
PAPER, PLASTICS, GLASS, BATTERIES, CLOTHES, OIL…
All these waste fractions are collected in the containers placed for this purpose within town limits.
Moreover, special containers for collecting small objects, which must be taken to recycling centres, are available.
There is a recycling centre in the municipality.
URBAN TRASH CANS
All the trash cans in Berastegi are designed to differentiate waste.
