decalogue

For waste management, we prioritise looking after health and the environment. There is no good management if it endangers the health of citizens and harms nature.

It is essential for citizens and municipal organisations to work together. We highlight the collective nature of this project and the need for honest behaviour. Correctly separating waste is the duty of everyone, and efficiently managing what is separated requires the good work of the institutions. On the other hand, nobody has the right to act indifferently and with a lack of interest. We need to adjust economic costs to conduct; it is not acceptable to charge some parties for the costs resulting from the indifference of others, when they do indeed properly and responsibly manage waste.

Empowering citizens requires, on one hand, giving them the option to be an active agent throughout the entire process; and on the other hand, informing them in a transparent way about the treatment that the waste undergoes from start to finish and, lastly, offering them the chance to participate in the decisions taken on this matter.

Waste management must encompass the entire cycle, so that the process is circular. Everything produced must be returned to nature, without causing any minimal damage, and if possible, in a way that profits from it.

As a starting point for all treatment, we aim to reduce the waste that we create. The best waste is that which is not produced. We need to improve prevention measures, and always with the firm commitment of institutions.

Collection needs to be efficient, and the treatment model that we advocate is based on this. Everything devoted to this work is a future investment. Selective collection involves both quantitative and qualitative progress. It is necessary to constantly analyse, evaluate and improve the results of collection, and to apply the measures needed to optimise the process.

Reducing, reusing and recycling are, in that order, the treatments to prioritize.

Following the guidelines established by Europe, the recovery of material takes precedence, to the detriment of energy recovery. European institutions have made it clear that at present it is not suitable to build incinerators, infrastructures found in excessive numbers in Europe. Likewise, we are against conventional polluting waste dumps.

We prioritise local infrastructures, as we believe that they strengthen local development and encourage a reduction of traffic, among other aspects. Likewise, we commit to making those infrastructures scalable, adaptable to the needs of each time, and far from the rigid and inflexible models that jeopardise the future. In the face of the business hunger of Multinationals, we say yes to the interests of citizens.

We have to place importance on technological developments. Waste sorting needs to be increasingly rigorous, and it is necessary to invest in technologies that, with the assistance of the right material, enable us to make progress on reuse and recycling.
